What is a "Village d'accueil" ?

It is a network of accommodations in family guest houses. This network of lodging in local families began in Quebec around 1970 and is intended for visitors out of Quebec, travelling in groups witch are accommodated for one or two nights in host families, in order for them to get a privileged contact with "Quebecois".

The stay in family guest houses includes a dinner, an evening activity (folk dancing evening or animated family evening), an overnight stay and breakfast with the family. Family lodging is unique and very appreciated as much by the hosts than by the visitors, whatever their age. For the most part, the tourists come from France and are travelling to Canada (Quebec-Ontario) for a period of eight to twelve days.

The network of guest houses welcomes approximately 35 000 European tourists yearly and generates an economical impact of more than 1 500 000.00$. The tourist activities also allows the creation and preservation of employment in the participating municipalities, for example, the hiring of Village administrators, musicians and hosts, and of course the contribution to local merchants.

Further more, the interaction with other people makes enriching cultural bonds for each welcoming community. These exchanges allow the families to know other cultures, enjoy a good meal and great conversation. Memorable meetings, bounds and friendships are created between visitors and the families that open their homes to them. The villages and their guest families illustrate in a warm and simple way the "Joie de vivre" and hospitality of "Quebecois" residents.

For the visitors, it's an opportunity to discover local culture, Quebec's everyday life, welcoming and smiling people who take time for them. It's hearing and appreciating Quebec's accent, local expressions, listening to winter stories, sharing the family table and making memorable friendships.

Here is a memoir written by a tourist from "Crédit Agricole Mutuel du Loiret" (France) in their travel journal:

"The kind of welcome you get by the French Canadians is warm like a simple meeting and over without fuss. An evening gathering, a get-together in the church hall where, social dancing and square dancing, no one can stay without interacting with the other guests and the host families. This discreet village understood that this lodging organisation allows the contribution to local merchants and public equipments, to create a flood of resources without having a heavy infrastructure to administrate. But the reel capital is in the hearts of the people and we were subjugated by that much natural and kindness. See you soon, Marguerite."

According to the definition of "Tourisme Québec", Family guest houses are establishments who offer lodging, breakfast, dinner with families who receive a maximum of six persons, as well as group animation activities.
